The Art Department is currently preparing for their upcoming student art shows, one of which will be held in the Rockbridge County High School Commons, and the other at Earth, Fire, and Spirit Gallery.
The annual RCHS art show will be displayed in the RCHS Commons from March 23 to March 28. The Earth, Fire, and Spirit Gallery showcase will open on March 6 on 15 West Washington Street in downtown Lexington. Art Students are currently working together in preparation by selecting artwork from the 2025-26 school year, mounting works for display, framing select pieces, and creating labels to identify each individual artist.
With a variety of art mediums represented, the showcases will feature work from Studio Art, Ceramics, and Photography classes.
Senior Kasia Reid, a participating student in the showcase, shared that she will be displaying a photograph of a metal lawn flower trellis in her front yard. In preparation for the showcase, Reid had to determine a price for her photograph based on how much she thought it was worth.
“I actually didn’t choose my piece of work. My teacher chose them for me,” Reid said.
Reid added what led her to take the photo.

“What led me to take the photo was the layers present in the environment since the photo’s assignment was ‘layers.’ I named it ‘Metallic Morning’ because of the blue tone to the highlights and based on the fact that the trellis is made of metal,” Reid said.
Her favorite part of the art department is the recognition
students receive.
“They will proudly display anyone’s work to give them the recognition they deserve on an art piece they spent a lot of time on,” Reid said.
According to art teacher Erin Allen, the shows are comprehensive exhibits, highlighting student work from a variety of art classes at RCHS. The annual student art show is held during the theatre department’s musical, “Grease,” so that patrons attending the performance can enjoy the artwork as well.
In addition to the school showcase, the Fine Arts Department is also preparing framed student work for the Earth, Fire, and Spirit Gallery in downtown Lexington.
“The gallery has been so gracious to our program and always does a stellar job of displaying the student artworks,” Allen said.
This showcase opens March 6 and will be available to view for the entire month of March.
“Not only do students get the experience of showing their works in a professional gallery, but most of the artworks are for sale as well, so students have the opportunity to profit from the sale of their own art pieces,” Allen said.
With months of creativity and preparation behind each unique piece, the annual art showcases are a way to celebrate student’s artistic talent. Support the RCHS Fine Arts Department by attending their art shows, and possibly even purchasing a piece of student artwork for yourself.
