“Stick” released on June 4. 2025 on Apple TV+. “Stick” has received a 7.2/10 on Internet Movie Database (IMDB) ratings and an 82 percent on Rotten Tomatoes.
“Stick” is about a young golf prodigy named Santiago (Santi) Wheeler played by Peter Dager who quit golf because his dad would berate him and he wanted to test if his dad really loved him or just his golf ability. Santi sneaks onto a driving range and starts hitting balls further than everyone, this gets the attention of former professional golfer Pryce Cahill played by Owen Wilson. Pryce convinces Santi’s mom Elena Wheeler to allow Santi to play golf in amateur tournaments to try and get on the Professional Golfers Association Tour (PGA Tour). After a few months on the road and a handful of amateur tournaments the group tries to trick a former pro who now sponsors a pro tournament, for a sponsor exemption. Pryce challenges him to a one hole match for the exemption and Pryce wins which allows Santi to play in the tournament. Santi starts playing in the tournament and he struggles, but he starts playing better and makes both cuts to make it to the final day of the tournament. Where Santi’s father shows up and he ruins Santi’s round and eventually starts yelling at him on the course where Pryce steps in and helps Stanti finish the round strong. Santi doesn’t win the tournament but he makes it on the tour.
In total Stick spans 10 episodes and season two is already being developed. Stick has great characters and beautiful visuals. I would recommend this show not just to golf fans but to fans of any kind of media. There are extremely sad moments that are balanced well with moments of joy that make for an amazing watch and enjoyable time.
