The book “Divergent” is about a town of people split into sections that best fit their personality who try to overthrow the government. The sections are called factions. The factions are made by the capital, you can be split into Candor, Erudite, Amity, Dauntless, and Abnegation. When you turn 16, you take the test to see what group you fit into. If you don’t fit into one group then you are called divergent. If you are Candor you tell the truth and never lie, if you are an Erudite you are smart and help do research on things around town, if you are Amity you are kind and help produce food for the town, if you are Dauntless you are brave and do risky things, and if you are Abnegation you are selfless and give things to the homeless.
The main character Tris was born into abnegation as well as her brother Caleb. When Tris took the faction test she found out she is divergent. When they went to the faction ceremony Tris picked to join Dauntless and her brother Caleb picked Erudite.
Tris soon falls in love with one of her mentors named four. Slowly they realized the government was going to kill abnegation by turning dauntless people into robots. The government found Tris was a divergent and tried to kill her but she got away just in time. The leader of Erudite captured Four when she found out he was working with tris and gave him a stronger version of the serum and made him try and kill tris. Four found a way to fight the serum and fight the leader and make her turn off the computers to shut down the serum.
The characters are supper funny and work well with the story line. Each character’s personalities add more to the story and made me want to read more to find out what happened. The characters also add a bit of romance to the story and make you love the characters even more.
“Divergent” is also a movie series to go with the books. You can watch the movie on Youtube, Apple Tv, and Prime video. Tris is played by Shailene Woodley who plays Hazel Grace in “The Fault in Our Stars”. Four, Tris’s mentor is played by Theo James. Caleb, Tris’s brother is played by Ansel Elgort who plays Augustus Waters in “The Fault in Our Stars”. Some other well known actors in the movie include Miles Teller, Kate Winslet, Zoe Kravitz, and Ashley Judd.
If you like dystopian books like “The Hunger Games” then you would like “Divergent”. The book and movie both have adventure and love. I would recommend this book because it was really good and funny.
