“Reminders of Him” came out on March 13, 2026 as a film adaptation of the popular novel written by Colleen Hoover. It was publicly announced in October 2024 that the novel was getting a movie adaptation. They started production and filming in April 2025, wrapping it up in June of the same year.
The story follows a 26 year old young mother, Kenna Rowan, played by Maika Monroe, and her journey after serving seven years in prison from a tragic mistake. She returns to the town where it all went wrong hoping to reunite with her five year old daughter Diem. But the bridges Kenna burned are harder to rebuild than she could have ever thought. Everyone in her daughter’s life is set on shutting Kenna out of Diem’s life completely. The only person who hasn’t excluded her completely is Ledger Ward, played by Tyriq Withers, a local bar owner who happens to be tied to Diem in a much deeper way than Kenna realizes. The two form a connection despite everything that is happening around them that could shatter everything completely. The story is full of determination, grief, joy, sorrow, and unimaginable challenges.
The movie is almost identical to the book. The director, Vanessa Caswill, worked vigorously on this production and brought it justice. Maika Monroe plays Kenna Rowan and did a phenomenal job. Monroe brought so much raw emotion to Kenna and made you feel everything she was. Tyriq Withers plays Ledger Ward and did a really great job with this character. He brought Ledger to life the best anyone who read the book could have imagined. He was a little different physically than described in the book, but his personality was the exact same. And it was both of the actors first major roles in a movie production and they did an immaculate job.
Though the movie adaptation was amazing in my opinion, others seem to disagree. Most people did not find the movie bad, they just preferred the book over it. These thoughts are coming from the very few, but key details of the book that the movie left out. Many audience members who both read and watched the story agree that the movie casting, pacing, and emotional depth was not as pronounced in the movie as they are in the book. Though people are noticing these key changes, they are still enjoying the movie all together.
Overall I loved the movie and think it is definitely worth the watch. If you want an inspiring, tear-jerking, love and loss story this is definitely a good choice. “Reminders of Him” shattered my heart, but by the end, it had grown ten sizes bigger.
