Rockbridge Takes Down Turner Ashby

Feb. 2, 2024, the Wildcats faced off with the Knights of Turner Ashby. The stands were packed for the last home game of the year, and that meant that it was senior night.  Prior to the game, seniors from several other winter sports teams were recognized alongside the boys basketball seniors, including swim, track, and the academic team.

The Wildcats went into this game 1-0 against the Knights, with their last matchup being a close one. Senior Milo Mulitalo was ready for his last game at Rockbridge.

I felt surprisingly very calm, even though I didn’t want the season to end,” said Mulitalo.

The team came ready to play right from the start. . Turner Ashby did well though, proving to be a fight for the Wildcats.  The Knights led most of the game and pulled away in the third and fourth quarter.

At one point, down 18 in the fourth quarter it looked like a loss for the Wildcats, and a bad ending for Mulitalo and the other seniors.

“I think the switch flipped between me and Henry, I wasn’t ready to lose,” said Mulitalo.

The team as a whole flipped a switch with big shots from Henry Lambert and Sam Ballstaedt to send the game to overtime.

With the help of an energetic student section, the Wildcats could not be stopped in overtime and they pulled away with a 67-66 win over the Knights for a happy send off of the senior class.
