The Wildcats hosted the dragons of William Monroe in a Valley District matchup April 16. This was a first time matchup for the Wildcats, as the Dragons are a new member of the Valley District. The Wildcats fell by a score of 8-4.

Sophomore pitcher Sadie Moore started the game off strong, pounding the strike zone and attacking the Dragon batters. The Wildcats also were struggling to get the bats going. The teams traded quick innings through the 3rd inning with a score of 4-0.

The 1st inning saw the Dragons break through with four runs. Their cleanup hitter started off the parade of runs with a two run home run. The Dragons continued to string together some base hits to stretch the lead to 4-0.

Sophomore infielder Paige Wright scored the first run for the Wildcats. Senior outfielder Marla Zollman and Junior catcher Parker Dameron also scored for the Wildcats. The Dragons bats stayed hot for the rest of the game, as they pounded out eight runs.

Zollman shared her thoughts on the matchup.

“The game started out rocky, but we had a talk and everybody started working together and we got some runs back,” said Zollman.

The Wildcats record is now 2-8. They will host the Gobblers of Broadway on April 19.
