On Oct. 4, 2020, RCHS Seniors were able to connect amidst the pandemic with an entirely new event: the Senior Parade. Cars lined up at 2:30 p.m. outside of Tractor Supply and set off on a pilgrimage to the parking lot of Rockbridge County High School.  Ashley Baker was one of the seniors that attended the event.

“I think that the senior parade turned out a lot better than expected, as many more people came out.”  said Baker  It was really nice to see people that I don’t get to see outside of school, and the teachers made it fun by giving us candy and such.”

Another Senior who attended the event was Camden Connor

“It was really exciting to see all of my friends that I haven’t been able to see since quarantine,” said Connor.

When the procession arrived at the highschool’s VOTECH building, an assembly of teachers and staff greeted the students. U.S. Government and World History teacher Chris Gallagher was one of them.

“I think it went well,” said Gallager. “Many students decorated their cars, and the teachers cheered them on.”

Since teachers have had to communicate through online learning, they have not had the chance to interact with their students in person.  This opportunity helped them do so.  Since the students have been restricted to their homes, they were also able to see  many classmates that they had not communicated with since the COVID-19 pandemic started.  Although this school year has been quite different, events like this help connect the students and faculty of RCHS.

“It was something that I will definitely remember from my senior year” said Connor.
