On Jan. 21, 2025 the Weeknd came out with a new album “Hurry Up Tomorrow.” This is the Weeknd’s sixth studio album and it completes the trilogy of “After Hours” and “Dawn FM.” “Hurry Up Tomorrow” already has more than 171.5 million streams, and although it’s still early, this album has a good chance of being one of the top albums of 2025.
As a Weeknd fan, I have mixed feelings about this new album. I think that too much of the singing sounds fake and is too electronic. This makes it hard for me to like a lot of the songs, but there are some that are different and that I like.
For Rockbridge top 5, I will be ranking the top 5 songs of the album out of my personal preference.
- “Cry for me”
“Cry for me”is my favorite song of “Hurry up tomorrow because it reminds me of one of my other favorites of the Weeknd “Remember you”. This song is a mix of R&B (Rhythm and Blues) and soul, and it is less electronic compared to the other songs in this album which makes me like it more. Some songs are only good to listen to at specific times but I think that you can listen to this song anywhere, whether it’s during a car ride, on a run, in a warm-up playlist, or at a party.
- “Timeless”
Although “Timeless” came out before the rest of these songs, it is still included in the “Hurry Up Tomorrow” album. This one is my second favorite because of its collaboration with Playboi Carti. I think the songs become better when there are other artists who are being featured. I also like the fast tempo of this song and the rhyming in the chorus and at the beginning. Along with “Cry for me,” timeless was also played at the 2025 Grammys and watching it live made me like it even more.
- “Red Terror”
This song really gives off concert vibes and that is why it is number 3 for me. I am going to see the Weeknd in Philadelphia in July and I am very excited for this song especially. It’s not too electronic and has a good mix of soul and R&B without it being too mellow.
- “Reflections Laughing”
Like “Timeless,” “Reflections Laughing” had contributions from other artists. This time it was Travis Scott, a rapper and Florence + the Machine, an indie rock and pop singer. In this song the Weeknd is singing for the first couple minutes, then Florence + the Machine joins into the chorus, then Travis Scott has a couple minutes of singing to himself. The differences in all three singers bring a uniqueness to the song that I like when I listen to music.
- “Enjoy The Show”
“Enjoy the Show” is a collaboration with Future, who is another popular rapper. This has deeper meaning and addresses The Weeknd’s relationship with drug abuse, and the name “Enjoy the show” is about how you need to live in the moment because you don’t know when it might end. My favorite part of the song is verse 4 because the Weeknd rhymes 6 straight lines back to back.
“Hurry Up Tomorrow” is available to listen to on Apple Music and Spotify and other small streaming services.
