The fall season is now officially upon us, and with that it’s time to start getting in the autumn mood, and the best way to do that is by watching shows that relate to Halloween and the season of fall. So today we’re going to be listing the top 5 fall or Halloween related shows that will make you feel that autumn spirit.
- Twin Peaks
David Lynch sets us in the small town of Twin Peaks, Washington where a recent murder has happened to a highschool homecoming queen. FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper is sent to solve the crime, but his investigation uncovers the town’s dark immoral secrets as well as the magical evil entity known as BOB. The series combines a murder mystery with the supernatural, making it a spooky and exciting watch the entire way through. The show is streaming on Prime Video and Paramount+
- Ghosts
Right off the bat, the name “ghosts” already gets you in the halloween mood. The show follows Sam and Jay, a married couple who inherit a large mansion with the intention of turning into an airbnb. The only small problem with that is that the mansion is haunted by ghosts. And after a small accident where Sam gets a concussion, she starts to see ghosts and talk to them. Eventually her husband Jay realizes this and together they work with the ghosts to renovate the mansion and make it successful. This series is a wonderfully pleasant and funny sitcom and the main cast is very enjoyable to watch. There are multiple Halloween episodes sprinkled throughout the current five seasons to get you in a spooky mood, and it’s definitely a great and funny watch. The show is streaming on Paramount+
- Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Buffy Summers is a teenager from Sunnydale, California who discovers that she is the chosen one with the duty of fighting vampires, monsters, demons and other beings of evil. But not only does she fight monsters, she also has to fight highschool, personal drama and boy troubles alongside her friends who call themselves “The Scoobies” or “The Scooby Gang”. The series is a comedy, a dark fantasy show and a drama all at the same time which makes the tone the right blend of spooky and cozy. A perfect addition to the list. The show is streaming on Disney+
- Gilmore Girls
Stars Hollow is a wonderfully cozy town located in Connecticut and Lorelai and Rory Gilmore love it there. Lorelai is a single mom who had her daughter while she was still 16 and is spunky, witty and fast talking. And her daughter Rory is a shy and quiet book loving “smart” kid who just wants to do right by everyone. After a payment problem arises while trying to get Rory into a private school, Lorelai Gilmore has to turn to the two people that she doesn’t want to turn too; her parents, the wealthy Emily and Richard Gilmore. The show went on for 7 seasons and 4 specials and it’s an enticing drama with many twists and turns, some of which are very frustrating to watch but that’s what’s so fun about watching the show. There are so many fun characters like Luke Danes, the lovable grouch who owns the diner and has a secret crush on Lorelai. Kirk, the wildcard goofball who has over a thousand jobs in Stars Hollow. Ms Patty, the exotic dance instructor who gives often crazy but ultimately heartwarming advice, and so many more characters with interesting arcs and personal struggles. The show’s theme song plays over multiple camera shots of the autumn season with orange leaves and fall colors, the first and last episodes of the show take place during the fall and the whole vibe of the show is just extremely cozy and makes you wish you could live in Stars Hollow with these characters during the fall season. The show is streaming on Netflix and Disney+
- Over the Garden Wall
If there was one show that I think perfectly encapsulates the feeling of autumn, it would have to be the 2014 limited animated series from Cartoon Network known as “Over the Garden wall”. The show follows two brothers who get lost in an enchanted forest and meet many strange characters and creatures. Most episodes start off a bit unnerving and uncertain but by the end you realize that the center of the story is wonderfully charming. In fact the whole theme of the show is about how “not everything is what it seems” and that we should be naturally curious but also cautious about everything we do. The show has beautiful animation and a very charming score that makes you feel as if the autumn leaves are swooping around you. The cast is filled with big names such as Elijah Wood, Christopher Lloyd, Tim Curry and John Cleese which is insanely impressive. And overall the show just has the complete essence of the fall season and it helps that the show has multiple sequences just showing off nature and the creatures that live in the woods. And so with that I say that “Over the Garden Wall” is the definitive fall show. The show is streaming on Hulu
