Clash Royal is a strategy mobile game by Supercell that is a mix of collectible cards, tower defense, and online battle arena. The game was soft launched around early 2016 in countries like Canada, Finland, Hong Kong, and Australia just to see how it would do before going global. March 2, 2016 the creators Supercell dropped it globally for everyone to play. The game immediately blew up topping app stores charts around the world within weeks. Clash Royale had its peak popularity from 2016-2018. Within those years tournaments were held, and many
youtubers were streaming their strategies to level up.
Around 2019, the game started going downhill with many players leaving the game due to the updates lack of and no more new cards. By 2020-2021 the game was still making money but there were very few people playing the game. In 2023, the creators did a huge update hoping to bring back the players they once had and to get their game back on that number one spot. In 2024 cards were able to become evos and balance updates happened along with tiktokers and youtubers coming back to spread the game once more. This year Clash Royale has had a strong revival of the game but not as strong as it was in 2016.
With the Clash Royale revival many students become addicted to the game and choose to play instead of doing their work. Many students play the game in a clash which ends up getting their phone taken.
Senior Keagan Black tends to play clash in his class, and gave a reason why students play Clash Royale at school.” I have nothing else to do once I finish my work.” Black said.
When asked, students said they play the game for entertainment. Junior Brayden Camden a junior was asked why he plays
“’I play’ cause it’s fun and you play with your friends and it’s an easy way to pass time.” Camden said
Students playing Clash in school has become a problem to the point where teachers have caught double the amount of kids being on their phones than they would have before the game’s revival.
People getting on their phones playing a game that can be addicting, can affect their grades, getting their phones taken away due to the new cellphone policy.
